Facility Management

Gail Powers of B Bar J & Dog Rosco

Hello! My name is Gail Powers and I am the owner / operator of B Bar J Equestrian Training Centre. I designed the facility with the health and safety of clients and their animals in mind at all times. I built the facility out of my hip pocket as I could afford it to make upgrades and additions to what it is today.

I am one of the rare Native Las Vegans! I was born and raised in Las Vegas and have pretty much lived and worked in the same location all my life.

My infatuation with horses started at an early age, as soon as I knew what they were, and it still exists to this day. I remember when I was about 4 years old my mother patronized me by pretending to help me catch one of the wild Mustangs that happened to be standing on the road in front of our house. Yes, the same house I live in today! Needless to say, as soon as we began walking toward them, they took off for the hills! I just stood there watching
the cloud of dust slowly vanish into the foothills!

I began riding when I was 5 years old, acquired my first horse when I was 9 and have had horses ever since. I was a member of the Clark County 4-H from the age of 9 to 19, which is where I began my show career. When I began High School I became a member of the High School Rodeo Team at Clark High School. I also was a member of the Western Junior Rodeo Association and participated in WJRA rodeos in Barrel Racing, Pole Bending, Steer Un-decorating, Goat Tying, Calf Roping and Team Roping. So, one weekend I was showing horses and the next weekend I was rodeoing! My life was completely surrounded by horses and I loved every minute of it!

In 1979, while living in San Diego, CA I started my business, “B Bar J Equestrian Training Centre”. The letters “B” and “J” stand for my parents, Bessie and Jay. Without their help and support during my childhood I would not have been a position to turn my passion into a business! In 1980 my husband was transferred to Los Angeles and we moved to Anaheim, CA where I continued to operate B Bar J.
In 1983 I relocated back to Las Vegas and began to build the facility. In 2012 B Bar J will celebrate “33” years in business, “29” years at the same location!
